Paints and coatings are critical in preventing and controlling corrosion for many facilities and infrastructure assets, keeping them in-service and reducing life-cycle costs. This course is the first of a three module series which cover paints and coatings for facilities and infrastructure. This module covers "Coating Fundamentals" and is broken into three parts: Part 1 Paint Classification and Components, Part 2 Light, Color, Tint, and Reflectance, and Part 3 Coating Manufacture and Quality Control.
Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will:
- Define the three basic mechanisms of corrosion control by coatings;
- Identify the four basic components of a coating or paint;
- Identify the classes and properties of each component and their relative effect on the coating; and
- Introduce how the concentration of certain components affect the properties of the coating or paint.
